My husband is from Celaliye, near Istanbul.I am very interested in seeing these patterns! I love to crochet and knit. I spent last year learning to knit socks the traditional Turkish way, toe up, and with traditional patterns. The socks are beautiful. I have many oyas that my mother-in-law has made and sent me over the years. I would love to learn how to do these edgings myself, too. I even wear comfortable cotton shalwar in the summer because it is so hot here in Texas.
Hello Arzu,
Your name is a Turkish name. Are a Turkish woman or changed your name after marrying a Turkish man.
I’m pleased that you are interested in these patterns. We have a lot of socks patterns, oya patterns, crochet patterns in our culture. Have you ever heard that a Turkish young woman used to wear different scarf with different oya patterns. Each oya pattern symbolized a feeling and had a message. Some meant that I’m offended( to her husaband), some meant that I hate my mother in-law. Once people used these ways to communicate with each other.
Anyway, thanks so much for your comment. I’m waiting for you new comments.
